Ruskin Bond has done an amazing job at penning down a simple yet beautiful touching story. 'The Blue Umbrella' narrates the story of a village girl Biniya.
In the village of Banikhet in Himachal Pradesh there was a shopkeeper named Ram Bharose who had a grocery store. There was a girl named Biniya who got a blue umbrella as a gift from a foreign tourist in exchange of a leopard claw locket. The shopkeeper Ram Bharose wanted to take the Blue Umbrella and he told her that children like her should not use fancy umbrella and told her to give it to him but she did not give it to him.
The shopkeeper's assistant came to know about his master's intention so, he planned to steeal the umbrella and when he failed, he blamed it on the shopkeeper. People did not go to Ram Bharose's shop. Later, Biniya realized her mistake and gave it to the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper also gave her a bear claw locket.
It is a touching story of humanity, forgiveness and trust. I liked the book very much and I would recommend the book for further reading.
